Description
Large Moroccan mortar and pestle from late 19th to early 20th century, carved from single piece of wood. Bring warmth and joy to your home with this beautiful functional object.This mortar and pestle was used to mill wheat in southern Morocco. The original mill has been lovingly restored and redecorated with a large hamsa hand carved with a vivid eye, silver melange flowers, silver Tuareg crosses, antique coins, and half-moon camel bone eyes. The top and bottom are wrapped in silver melange repousse. The Moroccan pestle has been further decorated with antique Moroccan coins.
This stunning work is the trademark of the renowned woodworking shop in Amazraou, Morocco. Using traditional woodworking techniques handed down from father to son through generations, their work is rich with baraka--the good feelings that come from a piece truly made with love and care.
