  • Condition: Case retains old original surface and hardware with good patina. Minor shrinkage cracks at the rear of the lid. There is damage to the ring handle on the drawer, in that the ring is absent. Interior retains some of the original brown velvet liners. Good to very good overall.

    Description

    1st quarter, 19th century. The walnut case is fitted with apothecary bottles designed for the traveling druggist. The rectangular case with hinged lid opens to an interior with multiple compartments designed to accommodate glass apothecary bottles of varying sizes. Case is fitted with an additional lower drawer with compartments for jars, boxes and other supplies. The case with campaign style brass hardware and fittings and also fitted with brass carrying handles at either end. The case retains a total of 32 glass containers; most with stoppers, 3 stoneware jars; 1 with label and still with contents of something similar to petroleum jelly and 3 small cardboard boxes with original labels of clinical micro covers for the preparation of glass slides.
