An antique Thomas Maddock's Sons Co. apothecary stoneware mortar & pestle.  A delightful antique white stoneware mortar & pestle set is marked Thomas Maddock's Sons and T.M.S. Co. warranted acid proof on the base and it is part of a client's family items of antique pharmaceutical items.
This antique white stoneware mortar and pestle set dates to circa 1880's and is marked on the bottom Thomas Maddock's Sons Co and incised 4.  The mortar has a condition issue with a crack at the spout.  The mortar measures approx. 4" high x 6-1/2" in diameter.
The wood and white stoneware pestle measures approx. 4" wide at the base x 9-1/2" long and has an incised mark 8. The beauty of the wood is due to it's age of over a hundred years old and the hand carved nature of the handle as it meets to its soft white stone ware bottom.
