ANTIQUE 1800s MORTAR & PESTLE -Thomas Maddock & Sons details:
this is an Extremely Heavy Thick WHITE Granite Ware Stoneware Mortar & Pestle
the bottom is Marked with an incised mark MADDOCK & SONS CO inside an oval - cannot read the rest may be numbered.  there is an incised picture inside the oval& more wording that isn't clear & has faded from use of this Mortar.
there is another incised mark which reads WARRANTED TM & CO ACID PROOF
Obviously it has seen undoubtedly years of use & is discolored inside however there are no actual chips or cracks which is incredible.
Not sure if this is the original pestle but IS WOODEN & it came with it when I purchased this M&P over 30 years ago at an antique store.
This is an incredible & wonderful Antiquity showing our past.  it is a wonderful piece for a collector of Mortars or any type of lab items.
think all the incised marks on the bottom make this piece even more amazing!  An extremely RARE Mortar !!! w Pestle!
This measures 6.5" diameter across edge to edge exterior x 4" tall x 3/4" thick.
