    Description

A highly coveted antique African wheat grinder. This large Moroccan mortar and pestle was created in the late 19th to early 20th century, carved from single piece of wood.
This antique mortar & pestle was used to mill wheat in southern Morocco. The original form has been restored and redecorated with large hand-engraved silver melange fibulae on each side, with numerous decorative rivets and large silver melange trumpet flowers. The top and bottom are wrapped in silver melange repousse, and the mortar is inlaid with antique Moroccan coins. The pestle has been further decorated with a silver melange cap.
This beautiful work is the trademark of the renowned woodworking shop in Amazraou, Morocco. Using traditional woodworking techniques handed down from father to son through generations, their work is rich with baraka--the good feelings that come from a piece truly made with love and care.
