    Description

This amazing and rare hand-carved stone herb grinder is entirely handmade and hand-carved out of one piece of stone all done with primitive hand tools in the 1930s in Turkey. The small stone has a perfect shape for a great fit to grind with two hands, it is perfectly rustic. This piece is very unique and rare and a wonderful collector's piece.
In the old times, poppy seeds were routinely ground and eaten with bread at breakfast. The province Afyon (what means opium) and the adjacent provinces Kütahya and Uşak were known for the liberal use of poppy seeds as food. Nowadays the use of poppies is controlled and limited to the pharmacological industry.
The grinder is called haşastaşı or in the local dialect haşgeşdaşı, meaning hashish stone or poppy stone.
The piece is still in great condition, can still be used but would also be a beautiful display piece.
