    Description

    We are happy to offer for your consideration a French stone mortar. It measures 10 wide 6 tall, This French Mortar was used for grinding herbs and making compounds. One of this size which is also been used for grinding flower for bread.
    This type of has used in kitchens all over France, for over 1000 years. This one is very Very heavy and made of solid stone It is at least from the 1800s and probably quite a bit older. It is in very good antique condition. It appears to have a crack running down both sides but I suspect this is part of the original piece. There are no adhesive or refitting. The French would find a piece of stone and use it as it was as long as it worked. I think the veining just adds to the character of the piece.
    A lovely addition to any French country kitchen or garden. It would make a lovely bird watering station as well as a functional kitchen tool. Lots of options for this lovely old mortar.
