  • Condition: Excellent distressed antique condition with all of the faults you would want in a nice burl piece to reveal excellent character. The pestle is included, but is no original to this mortar. The mortar is sturdy and solid with only inherent cracks within the wood which are from inception, intermittent and do not go through the walls, NOT later cracks or faults. The pestle is NOT burl wood and it is stable but DOES have stress cracks that run through the sides as you might expect. If you do not understand this description or are not familiar with old wood or burl pieces, please ask questions and refer to the photos. The mortar is dry and well rounded - with a very appealing look and feel. The pestle is smooth with a nice patina.
