Description
For your consideration this week is a very cool First Issue 5 cent fractional currency note, called "Postage Currency," F-1230.Fractional currency was issued as a direct result of the economic conditions created by the US Civil War, which included severe coin shortages. They were in denominations of less than and were issued in five separate issues starting in 1862 and continuing through 1876. This particular note was issued in the first round, the First Issue, on July 17, 1862, and features Thomas Jefferson on the obverse and the American Bank Note Company logo on the reverse, and has a straight (vs. perforated) edge. The condition is not so hot, but I wouldn't be either after nearly 160 years!
Thanks for looking!

Some stuff about bidding with me:
I’m in the business of treasure hunting for cool vintage items and collectibles. I’m not an antique dealer, but I do my best to describe items as best I can, pointing out any damage or concerns that are obvious. If I miss something, it is NOT intentional. No warranties expressed or implied. All vintage items are sold in “as is” condition. Please email with any questions prior to bidding, as it is my policy NOT to cancel bids.
I also do not end auctions early, so please don’t ask.
I ship almost all items using recycled materials, and make every effort to ship as economically as possible. I will always include Delivery Confirmation for items shipped within the United States.
INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: please email me for a shipping quote BEFORE you buy. Insurance will be built into your shipping costs.
Check out my other auctions. I list new items almost every day, so please check back often. I'm happy to combine shipping. And please note my 100% positive feedback -- you can feel confident in bidding with me.
